If I’ve hear it once I’ve heard it a thousand times this line “Shur tis only common sense” unfortunately no one knows
what common sense is, well in Health and Safety we look for competency which is another version of common sense I suppose, I was lucky enough to be at a training seminar with the Civil Defence a few years ago and the topic of common sense was brought up by the instructor and she broke it down into four simple stages of learning.
And then she broke them down, she liked all stages to her teenage nephews that were learning to drive.
Is where those teenagers thought they were great drivers and were convinced that driving was so good and that they were naturals at it even thou the get the car moving forward in a field they had no clue about how to stop it safely or turn safely, but in those lads minds they were just perfect driver.
After a few turns in the field the teenagers soon realized that they were out of there depth and that driving was a lot more complicated that they had first thought, so at this stage they realise that they need help and experience to upgrade themselves.
After time had passed the teenagers soon leaned the correct way to drive and had obtained their driving licensed and while driving on the road had to put in a lot of effort and concretion ensuring that all the manoeuvres were carried out as they should be.
Eventually the teenagers got to a stage where driving was second nature to them, taking off on a hill they didn’t have even to think about using the parking brake it just became second nature.
To be continued,……….
